Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of education in the formation and strengthening of social capital within the school environment. Social capital—which includes social networks, norms, and trust—is a crucial element in building a harmonious and sustainable society. Through a literature review, this research highlights how education can shape social capital through character education, the development of social skills, and active engagement in school and community activities. Schools are positioned as strategic spaces for instilling social values such as empathy, cooperation, and responsibility through the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and collaboration with the community. In addition, project-based learning approaches and the use of technology have also proven effective in expanding students’ social networks and increasing their active participation in learning. Nevertheless, strengthening social capital through education faces several challenges, such as lack of parental support, cultural value differences, and disparities in access to education. Therefore, an inclusive, community-based, and socially adaptive educational approach is needed to realize the development of a more cohesive, just, and competitive society.
