Abstract

The 2018 Palu earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 caused significant damage to infrastructure in Central Sulawesi, especially in Palu City and its surroundings. This damage shows weaknesses in the design and structure of the building which was not designed to withstand large earthquake loads. This research aims to analyze post-earthquake building structure renewal strategies using the Build Back Better (BBB) approach. This approach integrates earthquake-resistant building principles to increase infrastructure resilience to similar disasters in the future. This research concludes that the BBB approach based on earthquake-resistant buildings is a strategic solution for realizing infrastructure resilience in disaster-prone areas. Recommendations are provided to strengthen construction regulations, increase the capacity of local communities, and expand collaboration between stakeholders in implementing disaster resilience-based reconstruction. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis methods to identify infrastructure damage due to the 2018 Palu earthquake and determine repair needs and reconstruction strategies that focus on disaster resilience.
